Consistency = A Series of Daily Decisions

Consistency is key when it comes to forming any habits that we are looking to develop.

Whether it's sticking to a workout routine or practicing a new skill, the more consistent we are, the more likely we are to see positive results & shifts.

But the question is: how do we become consistent? It all comes down to the choices we make.

Every day, we are faced with choices. Some choices are big and life-changing, while others are small and seemingly insignificant.

You get to choose to snooze or wake up with your alarm.
Read the book or watch the tv show.
Walk the dog or chill on the couch.
Do some work or a netflix binge.
Cook or order in.
Go to sleep at 10p or watch a couple more episodes.
Save money or buy shoes.
Get the candle at Target or use the ones you have.
Skip breakfast or prep it the night before.
Do the dishes or ignore that they’re there.
Listen to the podcast or music while you get dressed.
Start laundry or just buy new underwear.
Go to the gym after work or skip again today.
Clean your house or hire a housecleaner.
Create a budget or pretend money doesn’t exist.
Change your career or endure the one you have.

However, each choice we make has an impact on our lives, and the cumulative effect of these choices determines whether we are consistent or not - and deeper, they determine the way our life feels & flows.

For example, let's say you want to start a new workout routine. The first choice you get make is whether or not to go to the gym or workout at home. If you choose to go to the gym, the next choice you make is what workout to do. Once you start the workout, you have a choice to push through the discomfort or to quit early. Each of these choices determines how consistent you are in your workout routine.

Similarly, if you want to practice a new skill, the first choice you make is to set aside time for practice. The next choice you make is how much time to dedicate to practice. Once you start practicing, you have a choice to push yourself to learn more or to give up when it gets hard. Again, each of these choices determines how consistent you are in practicing your new skill.

The key is to make choices that align with our goals and values and that starts with vision. If we want to be consistent in our habits, we need to make choices that support that bigger-picture vision.

It's easy to make excuses and choose the easy way out, but if we want to see real progress and growth, we need to make choices that challenge us and push us outside of our comfort zones.

Consistency is not something that happens overnight. This isn't a thing that you'll grasp and life just suddenly becomes easier - It's a process that requires dedication, commitment, and the willingness to make the right choices day after day.

But with each choice we make, we get one step closer to becoming the highest version of ourselves. I don't know about you - but my highest version of me is oozing with confidence and living a life she loves.

Becoming her comes down to the choices we make.

We get two choices, one after the other, each day, and the choices we make determine how consistent we are in the habits that feel good.

Pay attention to the things you say yes to today.
There's always something you're saying no to in that process.
